Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol Embarks on Investment Recruitment Tour in the European Union

Phnom Penh, June 11, 2024: Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who also serves as the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, is on a strategic visit to the European Union to encourage EU investors to consider Cambodia as a viable investment destination.

This initiative is part of the Royal Government’s ongoing efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet to enhance foreign investment in Cambodia. As the Secretary of the Royal Government for Investment, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol is actively engaging with international partners to boost investment flows into the country.

From June 9 to 18, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, along with members of the Cambodian Duke Association, will visit several European countries to showcase Cambodia’s investment opportunities and persuade European investors to invest in the nation.

On the first day of his investment promotion tour in the EU, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol met with Amparo Lopez Senovilla, Spain’s Secretary of State for Trade. He discussed Cambodia's appealing investment environment characterized by political and macroeconomic stability, a vibrant and skilled workforce, and favorable investment conditions supported by robust infrastructure.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed hope that Cambodia and Spain could consider establishing a bilateral investment treaty to enhance investment flows and communication between the two countries.

Amparo Lopez Senovilla welcomed the Cambodian delegation and expressed interest from Spanish investors in sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, healthcare, and transportation infrastructure, including wastewater management systems.

Following the meeting, on June 10, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol and Ms. Amparo Lopez Senovilla hosted a seminar aimed at promoting Cambodia’s investment potential to Spanish companies. The event, organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the Spanish Federation of Trade Unions (CEOE), provided an extensive platform for showcasing Cambodia’s business environment.

During the seminar, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Cambodia’s dynamic infrastructure and the government’s supportive investment laws, inviting global investors to explore the diverse opportunities Cambodia offers.

He expressed confidence that the session would enlighten Spanish businesses about Cambodia's inviting investment climate and encourage them to engage more comprehensively with the Cambodian market.

The seminar also featured a detailed presentation by Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee, who elaborated on the government's supportive policies and new investment prospects in sectors like automotive, electronics, agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, and tourism.
